I have the results of a widal test how should I read them
salmonella typhy O 1/80
s paratyphi a-o 1/80

Hello
Your widal report may suggest positive test for paratyphoid b fever.It is milder form of typhoid fever.
Single titration of anti O or H > or equal to 1 : 160 may indicate positive test.
However,single titration is of little clinical importance.
You may need clinical correlation and follow up test.Four fold increase in titre confirms widal test.
You may need tablet antibiotics like cefixime tablet or ceftriaxone injection after evaluation.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Widal test is done to diagnose enteric fever.
Enteric fever includes typhoid and paratyphoid fever.
The enetric fever affects the gastrointestinal tract and can cause fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea etc.
The test result show that titres for Salmonella typhi which is the causative agent for typhoid fever are low. The titres should be more than 1:80 thus you are not suffering from typhoid fever.
However, the Salmonella paratyphi titres are high for Samonalla paratyphi b.
The titres are 1: 160 for O antigen and 1:320 for H antigen.
Thus, you are suffering from enteric infection caused by Salmonella paratyphi b.
You need to consult your physician for treatment for Salmonella paratyphi b infection.
