What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Hi Dr. I am 28, my husband 33. His sister has 2 normal healthy kids and 3rd one has down syndrome. I am in 12 weeks 6 days pregnant and had ultrasound show the NT and VEL are normal, but absent of nasal bone. My husband and me are Asian as well. On the ultrasound picture, there are 2 bright white thick lines at the nose bridge. So, am I has high risk for down syndrome?

Thank you for using Healthcare Magic in such a situation.
Failure to detect the nasal bone is a better definition in this situation than absence of nasal bone. Since ultrasound scan is user dependent and several cases have been mistakenly reported as absence of nasal bone, which has proven to be present in later scans, there is no need to worry. I suggest you to have Bi-test and keep calm. Meanwhile you can repeat the ultrasound exam in the coming weeks. Take it easy and enjoy your pregnancy.
Hope this was helpful.
If there is something else you need to know, please feel free to ask.
Thank you,
Dr. Juarda
