Hi! My sister has a yearly check-up of CBC. Her Hgb is normal. Her Red cell count is high but her MCV, MCH and MCHC are significantly low. She had an UTZ ofthe whole abdomen and appendix--impression was consider ileus, non visualized appebdix d/t overlying bowel gas, unremarkable visualized portion of the pancreas and all else is normal. She was prescribed with FeSO4 1 tab OD for a month and have a rpt CBC done. 2 weeks after, she had her CBC. Red crll count is high but this time, only the MCV and MCH are low. She also had a Peripheral Blood Smear. Result shows the ff: 1. RBC morphology--smears show slightly microcytic and hypochromic red cells with mild poikilocytosis. Few elliptocytesnoted. 2. WBC morphology--wbc are mildly increased in no. and exhibit absolute lymphocytosis. No atypical lymphocytes appreciated. 3. PLT morphology--plts are normal in no. and consist both large and small mature forms. Occasional giant platelets seen. **No red cell cytoplasmic inclusions recognized. No immature and blast cells identified. I was wondering Doc if you could help me regarding the prognosis and diagnosis based on the lab results.
