I have Ct scan with contrast scheduled for 3/8/17. I take coumadin5 mg ad except 7.5mg on Tues and Thurs. I am allergic to Iva dye. 32 my methylprednisolone.has been ordered for 12 hrs before test and another 32mg 2 hrs before test. Can't get in touch with my primary. Should I hold the7.5mg dose on Tuesday night before test on Wed am?
Brief Answer: My opinion is that a short course of steroids isn’t a big issue to withhold Coumadin.
Explanation: Steroids may affect chronic users of Coumadin but affecting their INR. Some studies showed the increased effect of Coumadin while using steroids.
I suggest my patients the following withhold dose of Coumadin the night before your CT study and bridge with an enoxaparin subcutaneous shot twice per day and after you finished your study get back to your Coumadin. Check for your INR after three days to make sure of your level.
The information provided by you is not sufficient to provide a good opinion. If someone comes to me with this condition I would ask them about the cause of taking Coumadin.
Conclusion: I suggest you check with your physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
