What Does Mild Prominence Of Ventricle Noted In MRI Mean?

Hi, my son had a MRI in May 2013.Said scan was normal, no focal pathology noted. Mild prominence of ventricle noted. What does that mean. ( He'd as already had row EEG and a 24hr EEG, were no epileptic activity detected. He suffers from a mild form epilepsy. He also is a TOF/OA and TAPVA.)

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Ventricles in the brain are spaces filled with cerebrospinal fluid. Mildly prominent ventricles refers to the relative mildly larger size of the ventricles in your son. The might be the cause for mildly reduced brain volume. As there is no focal pathology on EEG, there is no reason to worry. Mild epilepsy can be due to mild developmental anomalies in the brain. This is not related to TOF and TAPVA. There is no risk of any further progress of the condition but mild epilepsy might require treatment with anti epileptic medications under supervision of neurologist.
