What Does Mastoid Air Cell Opacification Mean?

Moderate to severe nonspecific right mastiod air cell opacification with mild to moderate changes in the left mastoid air cells. Boderline sized right retropharyngeal lymph nodes measuring 6 mm in short axis dimension...this was seen on a mri of my brain.

Thank you for your question onHCM. In my opinion you are having infection of right mastoid. Since mastoid is free from fluid and having air cells only air is seen in MRI. Once it is infected fluid debris and pus can occumulated and gives opacification in MRI. Another evidence of infectionis enlargement of right retropharangeal lymphnode. As a rule Draining lymphnodes are enlarged if the area is having infection, since lymphnodes are our first defense. So you are having right mastoid infection.
