What Does Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysms In The MRI Mean?

recent MRI shows 2 internal carotid artery aneurysms ---one on the left side 3mm---one on right 2mm---I was admitted to the hospital for vertigo --I am a 74 yr old female , very active and in pretty good health ---I have been referred to a Neurointerventional Radiology clinic----is this something serious?

Aneurysm is abnormal dilatation of the blood vessels. Carotid artery is the artery that supply blood to the brain . The complication any aneurysm can have is it can rupture causing catastrophic results, that too if the carotid artery aneurysm ruptures it can cause a severe stroke , brain hemorrhage or sometimes death.

But there is nothing to worry , these Aneurysm can be clipped through neuro-radiological interventions and sometimes surgery.

So don't get scared , get your self treated at Neurointerventional Radiology clinic.
