My aunt is dying and has not eaten for 2 days. Oxygen at 78...Pulse rate at 165...Minimally repsonsive. rattly breathing. Ate WELL until 2 days ago. Good and proper nutrition. COPD and a calcified valve that is sending or not, blood to lungs. Was operable until hosp gave her a blood fungus and now a staph infection...What does the 165 pulse rate indicate?

Welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For the tachycardia (high pulse rate) several reasons could be there and it is not due to a single reason but the most common is infection. Other reasons could be cardiac disease, functional disorders, drug induced and others, in terminal stage it could be the reason for tachycardia.

Hope I answered your query,
