What Does Hematocrit In The Blood Report Suggest?

I just had a blood test.All normal but High Cholesterol and the following:Hematocrit 45.5, MCV 101.9, MCH 34.5 and RDW 16.0. Understanding the high cholesterol means statin drugs here I come but not the rest.What do they mean?I am a 60 yr old female.

Hello, after reviewing your case here are some things that may help you: your hematocrit is slightly high. A Hematocrit (Hct) represents the volume of red blood cells. The Mcv is the average size of a red blood cell and your values are very high. The MCH is the amount of hemoglobin in a single red blood cell.Your MCH again, is slightly high. The RDW is random distribution width and can tell a lot about the person's health. I would, if you were my patient, also continue to monitor your bloods cells. If you drink more than moderately, this could cause variations. Spleen problems, vitamin deficiencies as in B12 or folic acid could be a problem. So watch these parameters, have your B12 and folic acid checked. Make certain you are drinking 8-10 glasses of water as dehydration can temporarily have an effect on some blood parameters.
