What Does Growth Plate Fusing In The Ankle Indicate?

Hello. My son is 16 and currently 6 1. Doctors have always said he would be around 6 3, which makes sense to me because his dad is 6 3 and I am 5 8. Today he had an X-ray of his left ankle due to a basketball injury (sprain) she said his growth plate is fused in his ankle. Does this mean he is done gaining height? She wouldn t give definitive answer.

Yes, if growth plates are fused then it meant that growth is mostly over and it can reach only some minor values more. Only in some hormonal disorders it may take some longer period for growth even after the plates are fused. However, most people stop growing between 16 and 19 so this is not unusual age for plate fusion. COnsideing all this there is no reason to be worried about his health.
