What does green discharge after bad cold imply?

Hi, I recently had what started as a very bad cold. Sneezing, tons of discharge (clear) no energy, sinus pressure and clogged. I went to an Urgent Care Sunday and they rules out sinus infection, fluAnd even took a chest x-ray.Now, in it s 5 th day, I have more energy but am starting to blow greenish discharge. I also have a caugh which produces green from my lungs. They gave me a script for antibiotics in case it got worse they gave me AMOXICILLIN-CLAV 875mg.My question is do I go on the antibiotics or is a productive caugh and nasal drainage producing green just a sign it s alAlmost over? I also started having a headache today as well..but my sinuses seem somewhat clearer.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Green nasal discharge is indicative of a bacterial infection.
* Amoxy-clav is still the drug of choice and continue it as per your weight in twice or thrice daily schedule
* Also take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen or Serratiopeptidase
* Nasal decongestant like Orivin
* Oral decongestant
* Plain water steam inhalation
* Any other medicines as would be advised; complete the course
* If there is not much of a response then you may need another antibiotic and tests of blood, CT scan to have further evaluation and proper management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
