What Does Fluctuations In The Blood Platelet Level Suggest?

Is it possible for platelets to randomly go down? I had low platelets during my pregnancies and after delivery they were normal at my pp followup. I had some labs and they are low again. Is it normal for platelets to randomly drop without reason or is this pattern something to be worried about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

Short answer: Nothing to worry.

Detailed answer:

Thank you for asking.

Yes, platelets level may vary from time to time. Normal physiological variations will not cause any problem and its completely normal. If you don't have any problem with your health then there is nothing to worry. But if you develop nose bleeding, bleeding in eyes, giddiness then its better to go to ER. Low platelet count will cause bleeding problems.

If you have any other queries, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Dr. Prathap Kumar
