What does elevated alpha 1 protein indicate?

Hi, I have donated plasma for 3 years and never had a problem. Just recently I was deferred because I was told I have a slightly elevated level of alpha 1 protein. The nurses assured me that really anything like a cold, inflammation, etc could raise it. So I waited a few weeks and took the test and failed again. Should I be concerned there is something wrong with me?

Hi & Welcome.
Incomplete data like age, gender, any associated symptoms or purpose of doing the lab test??

Elevated alpha-1 protein may be due to acute inflammatory disease, chronic inflammatory disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic erythematosus), pregnancy or some underlying cancer.

So, in view of the above I advise you to consult a doctor for proper clinical examination and relevant tests to rule out those conditions listed above.

Hope this will help.
Best regards.
