What Does Dilated Left Renal Pelvis Mean In An Ultrasound Report?

hello, my ultrasound showed left kidney size 6.5x2.8cm and right one 10.6x4.03cm. Left renal pelvis is markedly dilated (4.04cm) & thick walled with narrowing at renal pelvuricteric junction. Left renal calyces are dilated with marked thinning of renal parenchyma. Urinary bladder is thick walled with 1.5cm thick walled diverticulam. Post void residue is 32cc. Would you please explain in laymen terms what that means and what should i do?

Hi,
Left kidney size is reduced while the right one is almost normal size. The pipe arising from the left kidney into bladder is dilated with mild narrowing just below the mouth of the kidney. Due to back pressure from the narrowing, the kidney is damaged and the walls of kidney are thinned out.
The urinary bladder has thickened with some amount of urine staying back after passing urine.
This means, you left kidney has been damaged. Only a renal function test can confirm the amount of damage. Surgery might be needed to correction the stricture at pelviureteric junction. Discuss with your urologist.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
