What Does Diffuse Bulging Of L 4-L 5 Disc Causing Thecal Indentation Indicate?

My son, 15 years 2 months old has mild pain in his back for quite some time. He generally gets relief therefrom on performing some yogic postures . On 4th may, while coming from by school bus a boy kicked and landed some blows on his back causing severe pain. He had taken Arnica 200 twice daily for three days which gave him some relief. But pain is there which increases if he perform yogic postures for relief. ultimately I consulted a general practician( allopathic) and advised some tests.

MRI of Lumsacral spine reveals "diffuse bulging of L4-L5 disc causing thecal indentation. No other significant abnormality is noted in the lumbosacral spine." Results of his ASO Titer tests is 304 IU/ml ( Normal less than 200Iu/ml) and R.Factor test is 18.2 mg/L ( normal upto 10mg/L).

Would you kindly give you valuable opinion in the matter.

With Kind regards.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of the investigations is as follows:
There is bulging of the intervertebral disc at the level of L4-L5.
The intervertebral disc can progress to disc prolapse.
Thus, you need to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment. relevant investigations for further work up.
The two investigations- ASO titres and RF factor need to be assessed in light of clinical features.
Elevated ASO titres suggest a past infection with Streptococcus infection.
RF factor is elevated in number of connective tissue disorders.

Thanks and take care
