What Does Coldness In Limbs While On Nadolol Indicate?

I have been taking Nadolol for over 10 years for high blood pressure. My hands, fingers, legs & feet stay cold all the time. In the last six months this condition has gotten much worse. Everyday around 5:00p my fingers turn white, get numb and very cold. I then cannot pick up anything, cannot feel my computer keys, and do everything I can to warm my fingers. The only thing that helps is running hot water on my fingers for about 3-5 minutes, and then my fingers turn red, the cold seems to go away and I can pick up papers, feel my computer keys -- this may last for 30-45 minutes and the cold & numbness re-appears. My ankles swell out over my shoes and my legs below the knew also swell. I have gained 50 pounds over the last six months. I had no clue as to what might be causing these problems until yesterday my Rheumatologist review my RX list and said Nadolol can cause all these conditions, and suggested a lab test to rule out lupus & Raynard s -- I took the blood test but don t have the results yet. He also suggested talking to my cardiologist. Do you have any advise. 10/06/16 Richard H.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Richard Babu, Hi & Welcome.

Based on the history given you seem to be suffering from a peripheral vascular disease like Raynaud's disease. Although the side effects of beta blocker Nadolol can also cause numbness, weakness, or fatigue.

You also seem to have dependent edema (swollen feet and ankle) which could be due to some underlying heart (like heart failure), kidney or liver problems.

So, in view of the above I advise you to consult a physician or cardiologist to rule out the underlying medical illness if any responsible for your present problems.

Hope this answers your query.
