What Does Chest Pain On The Left Side Indicate?

The left side of my chest hurts when I push on my sternum/chest muscle. It s been off and on for over a year it seems. More recently the pain will radiate in between my shoulder blades. Lab work showed slightly elevated Amylase/Lipase but all GI workup (i.e. US abd, CT w/wo contrast abd, and EGD with US) have been unremarkable up to this point. Those tests are about 9-12 most old probably. Just didn t know if I should chalk this up to costochondritis and take NSAID s or should I do more looking? I exercise 4-5 times a wk with no exacerbation of the pain. No shortness of breath. No heart attack history in my family.

Hello
Welcome to HealthCare Magic
I have worked through your attached query in detail and can certainly understand your concern.

Mild elevation of serum Amylase/Lipases associated with chest pain radiation to shoulder blades suggest a possible pancreatic damage with or without gall stone formation. As the imaging modalities are unremarkable, nothing to worry much. It's advisable to repeat the same tests if there is an ongoing radiating chest pain as latest test results are always more informative and reliable.

Please check with your physician if he/she shares my view and if can prescribe these medications/tests/opinion to you.

Hope I have answered all your questions.
