What Does C5-6 Degenerative Disk Disease With Disk Bulge Mean?
Hi, I had an mri done in in dec. 2010 it reads: C5-6 mild degenerative disk disease with mild to moderate broad-based central and right paramedian disk bulge causing mild ventral cord indentation and edema. Mild asymmetric right uncinate hyperthrophy and foraminal encroachment. Patent left neural foramen. C3-4 mild broad-based disk bulge causing minor ventral cord indentation. Patent neural foramina bilaterally. C4-5 same as C3-4. C6-7 minor central annular bulge with patent neural foramina bilaterally. What does this mean? Should I see a neurosurgeon?
Hell and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of MRI of spine is as follows: There are degenerative changes at different levels of the cervical spine. The changes are seen at levels starting from C3 to C7 vertebrae. There is degenerative changes along with protrusion or bulging of the inter-vertebral disc. The inter-vertebral disc is compressing the spinal cord and thus casuing swelling in the cord. These changes have not compressed the nerves emanating from the spinal cord but can compress if not treated in time. Thus, you need to consult your orthopedician for clinical assessment and thus treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
