What Does Burning Sensation In The Nipples Indicate?

Hi, My mom just turned 85. She is a colon cancer survivor of 4 yrs. She just told me last night that since early May of this year one of her nipples has shriveled up and is now flattened. I set up a mammogram for her for this Thursday. She doesn t have pain, she sometimes has a slight burning sensation. Any thoughts on this? Thank you. Rose

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Flattened or inverted nipple is a sign of malignancy. Also check for other possibilities like paget's nipples or adenomas or antiboma, etc. Please consult your surgeon he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
