What Does Bump On The Ear After Ear Piercing Indicate?

I got my ears pierced a few months ago and I've noticed one of them was sore but I didn't think much of it because I figured they were still healing but today it started hurting really bad and I looked behind my ear and I saw a large bump around the back of the piercing and while I was trying to clean it white pus came out and a little bit of blood. What should I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have bump on the ear after ear piercing which is mainly because of infection which occur during piercing due to which wound does not heal properly and pus discharge and pain occurs. Well this is very common problem during piercing, need not to panic about it. Healing can take 2-4 weeks. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Maintain hygiene of that area. Keep wound clean with betadine. Take proper course of antibiotics. If pus still persists drainage under anesthesia is the solution of your problem. Apply antiseptic lotion as well locally. If there is delayed healing due to irritation of ring, remove the rings for few days and re apply after healing.
