What Does Bruising At Incision Site After Appendectomy Indicate?

i recently had an major appendectomy as it was hard to do the easy one because of a past surgery that had created scar tissue. now i seem to have a big bruise on my side and what appears to be blood built up in my scrotum. it is very black and blue. my doctor seems to think it is normal but doesn t say how long it will take for the body to absorb it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at healthcare magic

The bruise you are describing is a hematoma due to the surgery. It is normal to develop a hematoma around incision site after surgery and it will be reabsorbed in few weeks to a month.
Meanwhile you can apply ice packs wrapped on a towel (do not apply ice directly to skin) and take Tylenol/Ibuprofen (if not allergic) for pain.
If redness or increased discharge from the incision site develops, consult your doctor

Hope I could answe your question
Regards
Dr.Lekshmi
