What Does Blood In Sputum Indicate?

Female, 73, on no medications. I got the flu on Thursday and while my temp is down (99.6), the cough persists. Sputum has been clear until tonight when it is tinged with blood. I received the pneumonia shot in 2010. Should I be concerned? See my doctor? Or is this normal irritation and I am safe to wait to see if it clears up?
