What Does Bilateral Frontal Lobe Atrophy On An MRI Report Suggest?

Brain MRI shows Bilateral Frontal Lobe Atrophy. I am 38 years old and after seeing a neurologist who did not seem overly concerned, she also reported me to the DMV for self reported symptoms of feeling like I had blacked out for a few seconds and feeling more clumsy and confused. She has referred me for Neuro-Psych testing and some bloodwork but I felt like she wasn t very concerned about the MRI yet she still wants to rule out any treatable causes and now my license have been recalled for a year. I feel like this is a nightmare. I have the MRI pictures if needed. Idk whether to worry or not worry because I feel like I m getting mixed messages.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all you need to assess how big is the atrophy and there are some analyses for that, which are MR volumetry and PET. If the findings are confirmed then the health care providers have to rule out treatable diseases like alcoholism, alcohol abuse (thiamine deficiency), endocrinopathies (e.g., hypothyroidism), and vitamin B12 deficiency.

If not then there are some others non-treatable neurodegenerative diseases, like frontotemporal lobar degeneration, dementia with Lewy bodies, and corticobasal degeneration. I am sorry but you have to worry about it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Klodian
