What Does A Swollen Bump On My Tattoo Indicate?

I Have A Big Swollen Bump On My Tattoo I Got Just About 3 Weeks Ago, I Used A&D Ointment After I Got The Tattoo As I Was Told. It Had Peeled And Began Itchy As Usual, But I Seemed To Never Stop Itching In That One Place Where The Bump Is. Is It An Allergic Reaction To The Ink Or Ointment? Or Did My Stratching Cause The Bump?

Hi,

A swollen bump at the tattoo site can be due to a number of causes like allergy, infection etc., however, it it is a single and firm lump under the skin then there is possibility of developing a cyst. Mostly such cysts are painless and harmless, but if they get infected they can become tender and more swollen. It can occur due to causes like blocked pores with the ointments or moisturizers you are using, sweat clogging pores, infection etc.

So first of all you should get checked then you have a cyst or just inflammation. In case if it is an infected cyst then you will be advised antibiotics orally and then once the infection subsides the cyst can be removed. In case if it is just allergy then anti allergy ointments and oral antiallergics can help in relief. Also, you should avoid scratching the area again and again. Do cool compresses over it to reduce irritation and itching. But do not avoid and get checked once so that appropriate management can be done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
