What Does A Sunken Vein On Lower Leg Indicate?

I have a sunken vein on the anterior side of my lower leg. It is itchy and has a burning sensation, which is characteristic of varicose veins, but my vein is sunken into my skin, so there is a depression that I can follow from about 3/4 of the way down my leg, down to the end of the tibia. Any ideas? I am a collegiate track and field athlete who runs and jumps ALOT. This injury is on my jumping leg. At first I thought it may be signs of shin splints, but now I'm thinking it may be vein related as it follows the line of the depressed vein.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,Dear,Welcome with your query to HCM.
Studied your query in full depth of its details.Reviewed it in context of your health concerns.
Based On the facts,Dear, you need to Consult Vascular-Surgeon or General Surgeon, who would assess the itchy and burning vein, which indicates the sural neuropathy due to the Venous Thrombophlebitis due to the Varicose Veins ? With ? DVT or without DVT.
USG dual Image doppler study of the Long Saphenous Vein in lower 3/4 of the lower leg would fix the diagnosis of these complaints, which are not due to the Shin Splints- which is due to the Venous insufficiency due to the Anterior Compartment Syndrome from filed Athlete like you.
Antibiotics with Coumarin-warfarin treatment with Veno-Stock and later on treated by a planned EVLT-EndoVenous Laser Treatment would resolve the issues with this problem.
This is Mostly due to the Stress in the Calf muscles causing the Compartment Exertional Stress Syndrome causing the Varisocity with burning pain and itching- which indicates the Venous Ulcer with Venous Eczema, which needs to be treated by EVLT and warfarin.

This reply would help you to plan further treatment soon with your treating doctors.Best of Luck and early recovery.
Welcome any further query in this regard, which would be replied in next
session.
