What Does A Sore Spot Close To The Ear Drum Indicate?

i have an sore spot deep in my ear canal close to the drum. It s only on one side of the canal. I can touch it with a q-tip, but it s very itchy and painful to touch. it happens at least once a year but i m not sure how long it lasts. I ve put a little peroxide and alcohol on it. Both make it hurt extremely bad. Any idea what might cause this and should i go ahead and visit my GP?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain you feel in your ear canal near eardrum is suggesting ear infection. Immediate examination by your ENT specialist is needed as this is happening every year. It could be following acute viral infection. It's normal to have complications like otitis media. Go and check it out with your physician or ENT specialist. Stop using peroxide and alcohol as this can make it worst.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
