What Does A Positive Coombs Test Report Indicate?

Thank you, I was diagnosed with Coombs, through an indirect screening by a plasma center. The staff there said to verify their findings with my doctor, which I have done. I do not know my doctor s finding(s), however, I have now been referred to an oncologist/hematologist clinic to see. I am afraid. My mother is afraid. I am a 47-year-old male.

Hi & Welcome.

Incomplete data like purpose of doing Coombs test, any associated symptom or medical illness???

A positive Coombs test means you have antibodies that act against your red blood cells. This may be due to autoimmune hemolytic anemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia or similar disorder, infectious mononucleosis, mycoplasma infection or systemic lupus erythematosus.

You need to be further evaluated with appropriate lab tests like CBC, ESR, liver function tests, kidney function tests, antinuclear antibodies, etc to find out the actual cause and its treatment.

Hope this answers your query.
