What Does A Painless Lump On The Back Indicate?

I have a small painless lump on my back which is the size of a small pea at the moment. It feels hard but can be moved about. It is about an inch from my spine - half way down. I have only noticed it for about a month. It does not bother me, only in an anxious way, because I have had two cysts removed in recent years surgically. They seem to follow critical periods of trauma in my life. The first one arose in 1999 -about 8 months after the death of my first wife. About 2 yrs later, I had to have another one removed which was infected ( more like a boil ). I 2008 my eldest daughter died with Cancer. I have suffered many skin problems in the years following. I re-married in 2008. However, my second wife died with Pancreatic Cancer almost two years ago. I am still suffering acute bereavement. I am 82, but generally cope well alone at home and my general health is good, though I do suffer with I.B.S. and a peptic ulcer.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Most likely this is a benign sebaceous cyst and nothing to worry about, although they can become infected from time to time and they don't disappear on their own but can only be gotten rid of by surgical excision under local anesthesia
