What Does A Painful Soft Lump On The Lower Occipital Bone Indicate?

I have a painful soft lump on lower occipital bone (right side). Initially presented yesterday as slightly pink but very painful to touch. Today the lump has gotten bigger, redness gone and continues to be painful to touch but slightly improved. Recently diagnosed with EBV but not on any meds. Not sure if it s related.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the biopsy of lump and ultrasound should be done and resection may be needed. If viral analgesic like acetaminophen can be used with good hydration and anti virals may not be needed but infectious disease specialist, as well as dermatologist review, should be sought.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
