What Does A Painful Rash On Neck Indicate?

I have a painful rash on on my neck just at the edge of my hair line near left ear. My doctor started me Famciclovir almost a week ago believing it is a herpes simplex rash. I have one more day of the medication, but I haven t seen much, if any improvement. Just a little concerned that it hasn t gotten any better and that maybe it s something else.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Other causes like fungal infection or folliculitis must be ruled out.
As a first line management you can apply over the counter available antifungal-antibiotic creams like clotrimazole-neosporin creams for symptomatic relief.
It will be better if you attach a picture in the follow up query.
If lesion persists better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
Wishing all the best.
