What does a mass near the tailbone indicate?

I have been told I have a mass near my tailbone (pelvic area). I have had a CT scan 3 mos ago and a MRI this week. The results came back to my physician to which now he wants to refer me to a gyn (specializing in oncology). What could be a probable cancer if it is diagnosed as one?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

In most cases at this location we see coccigeal teratomas which are very rare in adults, and as a rule these tumors are benign and have extremely low potential for malignancy. However, the preferred first treatment for it is complete surgical removal since it may grow and cause some symyptoms in future. Also, only by surgery we can see if this is benign or malignant for sure. Cancer at this area may be seen if this is part of ovaries or colon, but I dont think this is likely in your case.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
