What Does A Loose Flap Of Skin On Jaw After Tooth Extraction Indicate?

I got my wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday March 17th. One lower left, and both uppers. Happy St. Patty s Day, right? On Friday I felt a loose flap of my gum on the lower left near my second molar. I thought maybe the stitches came loose or dissolved. It didn t hurt and there wasn t any blood. The flap is now either gone or healed. I feel a hole and some of the stitches still in the back coming loose. What makes me nervous is there is a tiny amount of blood when I rinse and I can taste it. The blood only started today, Sunday March 22. It doesn t have as much pain as it does just tenderness to the touch. Just a dull ache. Is this normal? All the other teeth are fine, just the lower one is causing me issues. I see the doctor again on Tuesday March 24th.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a little bit of pain and tenderness just after 3 to 4 days of extraction of the wisdom tooth and a few traces of blood is not an abnormal finding and you need not to worry about it at all..
As far as a small flap of gum is concerned it is possible that a small portion of the gum flap is torn off from the stitches leading to handing which might has got completely torn and removed or became a part of the healing lesion and it is also not any serious issue..
The last part of your question that there is a hole in the place of extraction which I would like to explain that it is nothing but the healing extraction socket which does not completely get filled with healing tissues so early and gradually as the healing progresses it will be filled up with healing tissue and the hope will no more be evident..

You should not worry and as you are going to see your dentist for follow up if there is any discrepancy in healing or there is formation of dry socket the dentist will take care of it and advise you accordingly..

Hope this information helps..
