What Does A Hole Behind Molar Teeth Indicate?

I have a small hole behind my far back molar on the right side and there s a white area behind the small hole. My dentist took x-rays when i was 16 and said he didn t see any wisdom teeth. I m 19 now. Could i be getting them in now? Is that possible? I m having pain in my jaw and my cheek area is getting swollen. It hurts to chew and drink from a straw.Any advice on how to get the pain to stop? And what could it be?

Hello,
Your description strongly suggests a wisdom tooth starting to erupt. Consider seeing your dentist or oral surgeon to have a panorex X-ray that can show a complete view of the jaw and position of any wisdom teeth. You are at the age that wisdom teeth are developed well enough to start erupting and causing complications.
You may have another tooth that is the source of an infection or a gum infection. Your dentist can diagnosis this with a clinical exam and x-rays.
You should take Tylenol or Advil to help control inflammation and offer you some relief. An active infection will need treatment and often a prescription antibiotic to control the spread of the infection. Avoid chewing in the area and gently rinse with salt water.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope that you will begin to feel better soon.
