What Does A Hardened Artery In The Brain Indicate?

I had brain scan recently that revealed hardening of artery in brain in area of brain that affects memory. Blood test and physical evaluation did not suggest Parkinson s or altimeters.....My doctor is recommending 10 mg of plavix per day, however I had kidney cancer and have 30percent kidney function and cannot use aspirin with plavix. My doctor is consulting with my kidney specialist to see the best way to approach treatment. A test for carotid artery is scheduled. What are the risks?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hardening of an artery refers to arteriolosclerosis. It predisposes you to a clot forming there. Plavix and aspirin help prevent that.

A clot formation could result in a stroke. Do NOT be worried. It seems that you are in good hands with your doctors. The carotid artery tests will look for thrombi in your carotid artery.

In my opinion PLavix (clopidogrel) will help prevent this fromation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
