What Does A Hairy Lump On The Tongue Indicate?

I have been experiencing an odd feeling in either the back of my tongue or throat. It is more on the left side and feels like a hair or furball stuck, fingernail stuck or a bump that is possibly irritating me. It makes me want to swallow. I have noticed the pores on the back of my tongue seem larger than normal. I have been getting headaches more frequently and my ears have been slightly irritable or achy at times, almost like a sinus issue?? But why would a sinus issue be making my throat feel like this? I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and she seems to feel I either have a virus or am getting allergies. She noticed there was fluid in my ears when she looked. I moved to OR 2 years ago from Alaska. I have never had allergies and used to live in Oregon when I was younger. I do not have congestion in my nose at all. She prescribed me a nasal allergy spray which I have been taking for 2 weeks 1xa day 2 squirts in each nostril. She said I may have a virus which just needs to run its course. I never got the chills, fever or felt really sick. I still have this feeling in my throat and because I am a singer this really gives me anxiety and I would really know what I can do to help this problem. Initially I was gargling w/ salt water, I have been drinking Emergency like crazy, taking probiotic pills, drinking bolthouse "daily greens" and really trying to be healthier these past 2 weeks. The doctor said she could see the mucus?? running down my throat, not clear but a green thicker mucus, which is why she is thinking sinus infection, allergy or virus. She was thinking this was causing the odd, rougher feeling in my throat, back of tongue. She didn't swap my throat, just looked in there. I have never had my wisdom teeth pulled before. I am wondering if they can cause these feelings? Or, if it a separate part of my body having issues and it's affecting my throat? The feeling is not painful, but just really uncomfortable especially because I value my throat and voice!! Please help me with finding a solution or recognizing symptoms!

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

The feeling that you are explaining can be very much due to the swollen Circumvallate Papillae that are present at the very back of tongue and if there is any kind of infection in throat, tongue or if there is post nasal drip then they can get inflamed..

This can give you a feeling of something stuck at the back of tongue or throat..

If there is infected mucous running down the throat then such a feeling can be there due to inflamed Circumvallate Papillae..

Secondly if sinus infection is suspected then you might need a sinus x ray to confirm the diagnosis..

If it is positive for sinus infection then you might need antibiotics for relieving the infection which will gradually reduce the discomfort also..

Also continue doing warm saline gargles for relief..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
