Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a large bump that has formed around a piercing in the top of my ear. It is red and itchy, and sometimes emits a watery liquid with a slight smell. It has been there for a long time now but i want to do something about it. Can you help?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query you have symptoms of bump around an ear piercing which is mainly because of infection due to which wound does not heal properly and pus discharge and pain occurs.
You do not need to worry about it. This occurs very commonly and usually healing can take 7-10 days. Maintain hygiene of that area. Keep wound clean with betadine. Take proper course of antibiotics and clean twice with betadine rinses. You should avoid touching or pricking it. If symptoms still persists, visit an ENT specialist once and get it examined. If pus still persists, drainage under anesthesia is the solution of your problem.
Hope your concern has been resolved!
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
