What Does A Brown Large Mole On The Collar Bone Indicate?

I have had a large mole about the size of an eraser on a pencil (my dad calls it a beauty mark ) on my collar bone for at least the last decade of my life, and it has been rather larger and raised and awkwardly shaped for a long time but I never thought anything of it. It had almost a scabbish appearance, although very brown. I reached to move the collar of my shirt and my hand brushed it and it started flaking / peeling off like a scab would and I have no idea what that means? There is a small soft smooth bump of normal-ish looking skin underneath after the rest I peeled away since it came off painlessly. Is this reason for concern?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a large black mole on collar bone that flaked away exposing the skin underneath and wants to know whether this is a concern.
Since the black mole was present for a long time without any change of size. shape or any symptoms, nothing to worry about it.
But since it has fallen off you should have sent the sample to the lab for histopathology to be certain.
Since there is a raw surface I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a General Surgeon or a Dermatologist for clinical evaluation and take an FNAC or so to start with.
After evaluation he may excise the part with a margin of safety, stitch well and send the sample for histopathology so that a proper diagnosis be made.
If this is not cancerous the treatment is complete.
If cancerous then you have to follow the instructions of an Oncologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
