What Does Gamma GT Of 74.8u/l Indicate?

Hi I just did a blood test and my Gamma GT (37 Degrees) was 74.8 I do not drink or smoke and very healthy as I train to run marathons. I do drink a large does of protein shake everyday after my long runs. My fasting blood glucose is 5.68, se creatine 81.2, se cholesterol 3.70, high density lipoproteins 2.59, low density lipoproteins 1.367, se truglycerides 0.865 I am worried about this high Gamma GT of 74.8 u/l. Should I be concerned? And what could be the problem. My doctor told me to stop taking this whey protein shakes and eat healthy stuff ( no frying, butter etc).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi there
high protein diet has no correlation with Gamma GT. It is increased in alcoholic patients, chronic viral hepatitis infections often after 12 months. More recently, slightly elevated serum GGT has also been found to correlate with cardiovascular diseases. in your case i think you should get yourself checked for Hepatic profile esp viral marker
Take care
