What Does COPD Mean In The Chest X Ray Result?

Hi, I have a chest exray which the radiologist noted as Mediastinum is normal. Right hilium is prominent, with a round opacity overlying it, may suggest lymphadenopathy. Lungs: Prominence of bronchovascular markings is noted. Pleura: normal. Changes to COPD noted. Is this very worrying, and what does COPD mean?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and this is a condition in which there is decreased exchange of gases in the lungs. This is due to changes in the smaller airways. You should reduce smoking if you are a chronic smoker. Please take medications as advised by a pulmonologist.
