What Do You Suggest For Chronic Migraines When On Fiorinals And Codeine?

Hello,

Could you please advise me? I have been taking Fiorinals 1/2 grain with codeine for years now and I find that they are no longer working for my chronic migraines. I am going to run out of my RX's soon and would like to purchase an over-the-counter pain reliever that is compatible to take with Fiorinals as I wean myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is Tylenol Extra Strength safe?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

For pain relief, you can take rizatriptan or sumatriptan tablets. The safe limit is two per day and four tablets per week.

In addition, since, you also have frequent headaches, you should be on preventive medications to reduce the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. This can be done with topiramate, beta blockers, or divalproex tablets.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
