What Do Vision And Balance Problems After Head Injury Indicate?

My friend, a 19 year old girl (who i believe has blood circulation trouble) accidently hit her head around the temple area reasonably hard about two days ago, and has complained of vision troubles since. For example, in familiar places she often says that objects feel further away than she knows they are. In addition, she shows immense sensitivity to bright light, and seems to be having some balancing problems, lightheadedness, and dizziness. The doctor here claimed it was vertigo and perscribed Bonine but gave her too much and she fell victim to some delusions, which left after she refused to take any more Bonine. It seems like some strange fusion of a concussion and labrynthitis to me. What do you think?

I can understand your concern. It seems that you have a good knowledge of medical sciences or you are a doctor. It is really good that you want another opinion to help her.

Now coming to the symptoms, she is having photophobia, stereoscopic vision problem and vertigo symptoms. If all these are occurring after head injury, fracture of temporal bone causing damage to labyrinth and damage to occipital lobe or visual apparatus should be ruled out. It can be checked by CT head after consulting from neurosurgeon.

Another cause can be front-temporal lobe damage along with temporal bone fracture leading to psychiatric symptoms along with vertigo. For confirmation of vertigo, check her vestibular and cerebellar function. Consult doctor for evaluation.

At home, you can check her ear for any discharge/blood and hearing loss if she is co-operating. Avoid bright light. Do not give drugs which can cause sedation.
