What Do Thick Endometrium With Multiple Follicles In Ovaries Mean?

Hello Dr...I need ur help ...i got married in 2014 its been one and a half year now...I wNt to conceive :( we tried but still not pregnant ...I got my ultrasound and there its written that endrometrial thickness is 8.6mm...no uterine/andnexal mass seen... Right ovary is 5.5 ×2.6cm...left ovary.... 5.2×2.7cm ....both ovaries show small multiple follicles at peripheral with relatively excessive central stroma. Appearance is suggestive of polycystic ovaries. Dr wat does it mean? Anything serious or not? After taking medicine I will receive? Not to worried? Help plz. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What your ultrasound report says is that you are having 'polycystic ovarian disease' (PCOD). It is not a serious condition and can be treated effectively.
PCOD is associated with irregular menstrual pattern and difficulty in timely ovulation, which leads to less chances of conceiving and infertility.
PCOD needs to be treated in following way:
1. Regularization of cycles by using combined birth control pills.
2. Induction of ovulation by using Clomifen citrate and Metformin.
3. Use of anti-androgen drug Spironolactone.
4. Weight reduction by low-carbohydrate diet and moderate exercise.
These things will help you to increase the chances to conceive.
Kindly consult Gynecologist for proper advise and management by following the above treatment plan. Regular follow-ups are necessary.
Wish you all the best.
