What Do Rashes Around The Mouth And Nose Indicate?

I have a papular rash at the corner of my mouth and now around my nose. It s pimple like, reddened and painful to touch. There are also some isolated singular pimple like areas in my hair that itch. I ve had some left over steroids that I took 3 days in a row that cleared the rash up but as soon as the steroids left my system it returned. It s slowly getting worse but I also use a steroid OTC topical twice daily that helps but doesn t get it to go away. I m an RN and it appears to be contact dermatitis but doesn t seem to act like it since it is so resistant to treatment.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like Perioro-facial Dermatitis which is a type of allergic reaction or eczematous infection.
It can be caused due to disturbances in microbial flora over the skin, bacterial infection, nasal and topical steroids, flouridated toothpastes, harsh chemical cosmetics, poor facial hygiene, hormonal imbalances etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and advise you to apply topically ointments containing Doxycycline, Metronidazole..
You can also be advised oral intake of erythromycin..
Ointments containing Azaelic acid,Pimecrolimus etc can help..
Avoid any skin cosmetic or steroid ointments..
Avoid excess sun exposure, use gel based sunscreen lotion..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
