What Do Pain And Tight Sensation In The Left Calf Muscles Indicate?

I have a painful tightness in the area of my left gluteus maximus which extends down the back of my left thigh muscles and into my left calf muscles. There is also a pronounced tingling sensation in these same calf muscles. There seems to be normal flexibility in my left leg, although the muscles and tendons seem to be as tight as piano strings, and trying to stretch to touch my toes creates a pain in my left leg from my hip to my knee. My right side doesn t exhibit any of these symptoms, just the left side. What might be the possible cause and what can I do to relieve the pain, etc.? I am a male, age 72, am in good health (except for elevated BP for which I take 5 mg. Lisinapril) and have generally been pretty active.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [Neurologist]and do MRI scan and Myelogram] to confirm.
2) Discuss with your physio for a specific plan and talk with your Doctor about a painkiller for short time with [PPI].

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Do exercise. Strengthening the trunk muscles helps stabilize and support the spine.
2) Maintain good posture.
3) Good posture reduces the pressure on your spine and disks.
4) Keep your back straight and aligned, particularly when sitting for long periods.
5) Lift heavy objects properly, making your legs, not your back.
6) Try to maintain a healthy weight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
