Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Pain And Swelling In The Left Heel And Ankle Indicate?
The heel of my left foot has been hurting for the past 3-4 days and now it has moved to the ball of my foot. The heel is somewhat tender to touch and my ankle is slightly swollen and it is only the left ankle/foot. It is slightly hard to walk on it, there is no discoloration or bruising. I can think of any way that I have hurt my foot. The symptom checker said it might be a stress fracture or sciatica. I don't think it's sciatica because I've had that before and it doesn't feel like that and my back doesn't hurt.
1. You need medical evaluation since it could be a blood clot [DVT- deep vein thrombosis] which has to be immediately excluded as there is a pain in the right leg [one week], so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.
PS. In addition to above cause, one may exclude simultaneously: nerve damage [neuropathy], high uric acid, or any poor circulation to the foot [any peripheral vascular disease/diabetes]
2. It is important to consult with Orthopedic surgeon/Podiatrist to prevent further or long-term damage since failure to do so can lead to disability, paralysis, permanent symptoms of pain and numbness.
