What Do Lumps On The Wrists And Palms Indicate?

I believe I have 2 cysts. One on my wrist which is rubbery and one on the palm side of my right index finger at the base. This one is hard and painful. Should I have them surgically removed? Also the Knuckle of my middle finger is stiff and painful to make a fist.

Thank you for trusting Healthcare Magic.

Maybe it is Ganglion cyst. This fluid-filled pockets that are connected to the joint cavity usually appear on joint areas such as the wrists, hands, ankles, and so on. It is harmless, but when the size is large or pressing nearby nerves can arise complaints such as pain, movement disorders and so forth. In some cases ganglion cysts can heal by itself. By your complaints, if I were your treating doctor, I may suggest to:
1. Immobilization, limiting the movement for the cyst does not get bigger and cause pain
2. Aspiration, sucking the contents of a cyst with a syringe, then can be injected steroids into the bag of cysts to reduce the possibility of the cyst re-formed
3. Operation, which is the removal of the entire bag of cysts at once disconnect the cyst with the joint cavity.

Ganglion cysts that are left generally do not cause serious or dangerous conditions, but if the size increases or has caused a complaint should be done appropriate treatment measures. You can discuss it to general surgeon about the risks that arise when the ganglion cyst is performed surgically or not.
