What Do Itchy Bumps On The Upper Arms Indicate?

I have bumps on my upper arms. The dermatologist diagnosed Folliculitis, and prescribed antibiotic ointment, and a steroidal cream for the itching. It controlled the itching a lot, but the bumps did not heal. I did bleach baths, which did not seem to help. I threw out my Venus shaver, and bought disposable shavers, as I may have Folliculitis in my groin area. The bumps on my upper arms lasted a few weeks, red and itchy. On their own, they disappeared, but left scars for a week or two. I got the bumps back in a wk. or ten days. It started again in the same area. The dermatologist did a biopsy and says it is bug bites or an eruption from a medication I am taking. I am taking thyroid meds, Synthroid and generic Cytomel, Estrogen cream, three days wkly, and Acyclovir, for vag. herpes, which flare frequently, and a slew of vitamins. Help Thank you, Dianne Williams

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Folliculitis occurs with razor if you do not shave in the same direction and shave haphazard. They will disappear but will take months to do that. Barring thyroid the rest medication you take can cause rash as a symptom so you can take an opinion from the physician and stop or change the medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita
