What Do Itchy And Inflamed Insect Bite On The Skin Indicate?

I was bitten by something when I was sleeping. At first, I was woken from a sound sleep with the most intense itching I ve ever experienced. Then over the next few hours the bites appeared accompanied by itching and intense burning. The bites themselves are round and hard with a puncture mark in the middle and very red at first but now appear to be spreading and turning purpleish

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like severe allergic reaction due to multiple bites causing inflammation and allergic reaction​..
As you have visible bite marks it is clear indication of multiple bug or insect bites..
Do not worry they will heal gradually..
You should take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Benadryl..
Apply steroid and antibiotic combination of ointment over the bites to reduce inflammation and swelling..
Do cool compresses over the bites or take cold water showers..
But in case if there is no relief or you get symptoms like dizziness, difficulty breathing then immediately consult an Emergency room..
