What Do Heaviness In The Arms And Numbness On The Cheeks Indicate?

Hi. About 5 months ago I woke up with a heavy arm that subsided mid day. Within a couple hours after I had numb cheek, hard tongue and heavy chest with shortness of breath. I went to the ER and they tested my blood. My d Dimer was slightly elevated at 367. They gave me 4 baby aspirin and sent me for CT scan couple hours later. It was negative. Months have passed and since I have had MRI, MRA and both negative. A couple nights ago I had pain in one spot of my leg, knee down. It got worse couple days later so I went to the ER. They did ultrasound of my leg and it was normal. Again I had pain and followed up with my GD. He took blood and my d Dimer is now at 375. He told me it’s slightly low and to go see a vascular dr. I have an appt this Monday. I am very nervous bc my d Dimer levels went up even though my dr says it’s still low. Please help explain things to me and I hope to allay my fears. Ty

Hello,

The test is done in case of a suspect of embolism. The source of which is DVT mainly. You are having a hypercoagulable state which makes clot in vessels and gives rise such symptomatology. I think you should do some test like homocysteine levels, factor v mutation, and with that vascular surgeon opinion for further management.
