Thanks for contacting HCM
I am sorry to hear about your elevated
ALT and AST. These are markers for
liver disease and at the low levels that your enzymes are currently are not at all alarming. ALT and AST are very sensitive for medications, diet and alcohol. Since you did have alcohol the day prior to your testing it can still be seen on your lab tests. Also the steroid treatment you had even a month ago can still influence you tests. But the most common cause of elevated ALT and AST is fatty infiltrate of the liver. This is when our diet is too high in fat or we are
overweight even a little bit will cause extra fat molecules to be deposited in the liver and causing the elevated ALT and AST.
I recommend for you:
1. eat a low fat heart healthy diet
2. exercise regularly
3. Avoid alcohol
4. Avoid using
steroids unless prescribed by you physician
5. Avoid excessive vitamin and health supplements
6. Avoid medication like
Tylenol which are metabolized by the liver
7. Repeat your lab values after a 12 hour fast and no alcohol the day before in 3 months
